My mom is so talented. Besides raising two healthy, functioning human beings (my brother and I), working full-time as a nurse, cooking for our church on the weekends and making sure our house doesn’t burn down, she’s also a sugar artist! For Aiden’s Noah’s Ark cake, she sculpted Noah himself.
If you’re wondering, that’s suppose to be TWO elephants, not some crazy, warped one with a twisted body.
I was too tired and busy to make the Man which was in my original plan so she took a stab at it and ta-DA! Amazing. Since the cake was needed the same day, we didn’t have enough time to let it harden so all his body parts kept falling. It was quite funny!
Speaking of Noah’s Ark – I visited that popular amusement park in Hong Kong. It was awe-inspiring, majestic in stature and the beauty of it was that it was built to scale. I felt like a midget standing next to it!
We went to Tsuen Wan subway station and took a ferry to Ma Wan Island where the ark was located.

I saw the colourful sign and couldn’t resist…
… so I made the boys pose under their respective colours. I should’ve worn my purple LOV46LE shirt from 46NYC to complete the set!
The ark was divided into three levels replicating the actual boat (lower level for large animals, middle for mid-size and top for small animals) and the interior of the lower level was made to look like we were actually in it. I like to call it The Total Ark Experience
There were two 3D movies showing the history of the ark and why God had to send the flood and the significance behind it. There were live animals in there which the boys were interested in but what caught their attention was the “feed the animals” video game on the floor-to-ceiling wall. There were a bunch of cartoon animals on the screen and they each had 20 seconds to match the correct food to the animal. We were there for a while.There was even a two-headed giraffe! Jason said it’s because one’s a boy and one’s a girl (??? I refrained from saying, “No, honey… they’re not hermaphrodites” but wasn’t in the mood to explain what that word meant without some chart paper, Sharpie and perhaps a Red Bull). Instead, I said that God loves all animals, even the mutated ones
Brilliant. I should write children’s novels.
Of course I made them do this! I wanted to pose like this with my brother too but realized quickly that the “cute” factor stopped at a certain age. Drats!
There was even a real-life two-headed turtle which was worth $20,000CAD. We didn’t see it but when we came back, my mom showed me an article in the Chinese newspaper that the turtle was stolen from the ark. Eek! I hope it wasn’t one of my boys.
Anyways, the overall experience was fun and educational. Even though I was born in a Christian family and have been going to church more than 20 years, I still learned a lot. So if you’re ever in Hong Kong, stop by the Ark and learn more about our rich and beautiful ancestral roots. They have air-conditioning too (so not everything was to scale :p).
