Promotions are GREAT! Having an educational background in business/marketing and being a sucker for all things that relate to “giveaways” and “special deals”, I know just how important it is to have a promotion once in a while. I hope to do a different promotion each month not only to encourage people to order goodies but as a gift from me to YOU! I love giving gifts! Tomorrow, I’m heading over to JUSCO to purchase the biggest luggage they have so I can haul all my gifts home. I over-bought but I couldn’t help it! ![]()

Cheers to you, November!
I’m leaving HK in 3 days! Sniffles

Shek O Beach, Hong Kong – 2007
I’m so excited! This day has finally come
I will continue to check my e-mail so keep them coming! I’ll post some pictures of my travels as I upload them so visit often to check it out! Until then.. see ya!
(ps. this was one of my favourite photos from my last trip to Hong Kong. BELIEVE it or not, this was taken by a 5-year-old who was playing around with my camera while his brother and I took a stroll. I love the positioning of all the elements and the backdrop – and I love it when life gives me one of these moments!)

Quick Update
Wednesday, April 20th, 2011
Hi friends! It’s me, Jenn. You probably don’t recognize me cause I’m covered in flour and my hair’s frazzled but don’t worry… it’s still me. I have been super busy this week preparing for 4 big orders for Thursday. I want to say that I’m getting used to making multiple cakes at any given time but it’s still challenging at times. There’s an enormous amount of detail in these cakes going out this week and you know that my heart is in the details. I’m really excited to show them to you but I cannot post it until the client/recipient sees it first. Rules are rules! ![]()
I’ll be out of town this weekend so unless I figure out how to connect to my server via my phone, then I’ll be posting next week. It’s going to be another busy one! Next Wednesday is the Wedding Insider’s Night at Paintlounge where I will have my booth, Daring Baker’s Challenge is taking place next week as well anddd… someone special’s 1st birthday is on Saturday – can’t wait!
And then it’ll be May. My beloved birthday month. Still trying to figure out what to do… so far, I have: go to Soma at the Distillery District for strawberry sorbet (the best in the city, hands down!) and Chipotle Mexican Grill for a burrito… maybe take a walk by the lake if it’s warm outside anddd… that’s it for now. I’m a simple gal and am easily satisfied with small things. No fancy night on the town needed here!

I made this for a charity event last year. They raised a lot of money.
If I don’t post again before the weekend – Happy Easter, everyone!
Topper Tuesdays: Frienemies!
Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011I didn’t have a clue what my “topper” was going to be this week and then it hit me last night! ANGRY BIRDS!
I played it for the first time last week (I know I’m sooooo behind) and it was so much fun. I decided to pay tribute to these beloved enemies.

I love the pig! He’s so cute!
In other news… Sweet Escapes was featured on What’s Up Whimsy this week. I got to meet with Shannon (whom I met from crafTEAtime) and her adorable son Keaton on Friday at the kids’ section at Chapters. We sat on miniature brightly coloured chairs and felt like giants
Read about it here.
Sweet Escapes is also an official sponsor of Psalms 91:1 Accessories’ Spring/Summer launch entitled “Your Love” on April 2nd at LG Fashion Week. For more information and to get tickets, click here.
It’s been a great week so far! Whimsy Wednesday is tomorrow…
see you then!
CrafTEAtime Recap
Saturday, February 26th, 2011
As I am waiting for my dough to proof and my goodies in the oven to bake, I’d thought I’d finally sit down and blog about Sunday’s CrafTEAtime. After reading blog posts that other attendees have written, I decided to let you read what they thought about the event instead of me rambling on and on.

There are a few other bloggers who haven’t published their entries yet but I will post them on a separate page when I receive them.
As I was thinking about the event and about the entrepreneurs that I met, three things came to mind. Three vital elements to every successful business. Future entrepreneurs, take note! This may be helpful for your new venture
You have to have passion
It was a refreshing change to be surrounded by other people with such passion for what they do. You can just TELL that they love their job. They are glowing excitement when they talk about their product. They just can’t help it! Passion or “heart” is not something you can learn or acquire… you just have to have it. I admire people with passion and who pursue it. It’s so rare nowadays. I have seen one too many people stuck at jobs they don’t like, jobs that only provide them with a paycheck every two weeks but rob them of their joy… jobs that consume their souls. People who are daring enough to pursue their passion say, “That’s enough—I deserve to be happy!” and do their own thing. I love those people.
You have to have a support group
I don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t have supportive family and friends to encourage me every step of the way. Starting your own business is not easy. Sure, the hours are flexible, you get to be your own boss and you don’t have to wear business casual attire to work but it’s not always cupcakes and sprinkles! It’s tough when you don’t know when your next paycheck is coming or the amount. It’s disappointing when the cupcake that you bake does not look like the one in the cookbook. Or it’s 3am and you’re still cutting fondant Elmos that does not look like him anymore. You just want to give up because that’s the easiest road to take. But when you have people around you to encourage you to pull up your socks and carry on, you are reminded that you are not alone on this journey!
You have to have fun!
You have to love what you do. You have to smile and laugh. I smiled and laughed so much on Sunday that my face hurt! It’s important to stay positive, look on the bright side and see the glass as half full. A positive attitude is contagious. When you are passionate and love what you do, the “fun” comes naturally.
This is my longest post to date! I hope you enjoyed a glimpse of my thoughts
I have to get back to baking now… stay tuned for the next few days! I have some exciting blog posts coming your way including February’s Daring Baker’s Challenge desserts (yes, there’s TWO this month!), a new feature called “Cupcake Me” Mondays and a peek at what I couldn’t resist buying at St. Lawrence Market today. Happy Weekend, everyone!

An Interview with Sweet Escapes
Thursday, January 20th, 2011 I am excited to announce that I have been interviewed by Rebecca from Rebecca Chan Weddings & Events this week! Rebecca is a creative and high-energy individual who is extremely passionate about event planning. I am currently working with her on The Sweets Affair and her attention to detail and quest for perfection is like nothing I have seen before. She is organized, professional and on top of all her work. I highly recommend her for your next event!
In the meantime, I am going to get back to making these sugar roses. My fastest time tonight? 3:06 minutes. I time myself to make it more fun
Happy Thursday!
Cupcakes and Love
Thursday, January 6th, 2011Happy Thursday, everyone!
I’ve been busy planning for an upcoming event that Sweet Escapes will be sponsoring. The details have not been determined so I can’t share my wonderfully awesome news yet. I met with the event planner for 3+ hours at Starbucks today and we got so much done. I’m happy
Okay, I must stop blogging now or else I might let it leak out.
