Two by Two

Monday, May 28th, 2012

I’m probably going to be beaten up for saying that, or at least get a lot of dirty looks but I will say it again and again… I love Mondays! All my orders are on Thursday-Sunday so Monday is MY “Friday”. On Sunday night while everyone’s moaning and groaning about having to go back to work on Monday, I have a big smile on my face asking, “Is it Monday yet? Is it Monday yet?”. I’m so relaxed today! :)

I know my life is going to get busier as my businesses grow so force-feeding myself a day off is so important. Even though all I thought about today was work and mentally had a panic attack about how much work I have to do before Ottawa… I got to do it in my PJs in my “Monday office” (bed) while watching movies and missed TV shows. I guess it all balances out at the end! ;)

I got to make another Noah’s Ark cake this weekend. Remember the first one I made for my cutesy Aiden’s 2nd birthday? With all the *pow pow* (aka bright) colours? I decided to go another route this time around since my friend gave me complete executive decision-making powers over this cake, I decided to go with a PASTEL PALETTE. I made a few pastel cakes this year including Sabine’s First Communion Cake and Heffy-the-Elephant’s cake and even though I LOVED how they turned out, something didn’t look right. I love bright colours so going the pastel route was out of my comfort zone.

Until… TA-DA!!!

The ark floated in

This would be perfect for a TWINS’ birthday (but it wasn’t).

And I love my animals too!

This cake was ordered by a dear friend who wanted to get a cake for her husband and daughter’s joint birthday. I was wondering why, of all themes she wanted to get one with a BOAT and ANIMALS (although they’re uber cute!) and my question was answered today when she posted a picture and the following on my FB wall:

this theme has very special meaning for the birthday boy and birthday girl, as one has approached his middle adulthood and the other just entered young adulthood, how important it is to know that Jesus has prepared such amazing salvation, so that we are able to walk with Him day or night, young or old, and most of all, when all fail, His love never fail !!

Every cake has a story… and I love it when people invite me to be a part of their special moments!

Who is making your cake?

I get asked that question a lot. A lot. The only time I ever made my own birthday cake was when I was 18 and it wasn’t so much of an actual cake but an experiment with a friend of mine. And it turned out to be my birthday :) I so wish that I kept the photos. I don’t know where they went! Boo. It’d be nice to do a comparison or a photo montage/video of how far I’ve come on this journey of mine, maybe to the music of, “sugar pie honey bunch… you know that I love you!” ;)

I’m surrounded by cakes everyday, either physically baking/decorating cakes or THINKING about it. I even dream about cakes. So when someone asked me what cake I wanted, I said the first thing that popped into my head — Blueberry Banana Pancakes with CHOCOLATE MILK! That’s my pancake cake. And it was soOOooOOoo good! The best things in life are the simple things. My hope/wish for myself is that no matter how successful I become, I want to stay GROUNDED and never forget the little things that made me the person I am. I want my intentions to be pure, to run my businesses with integrity and to always have this heart to CARE for others.

Happy Victoria Day! :D

I LOVE This Day! =)

My job is birthday-centric. How FUN and AWESOME does that sound? I’m thinking about birthdays all the time… either from clients or friends/family. May 17th comes once a year and I’m excited that I finally get to celebrate my own. I feel like a kid again. And guess how I’m going to celebrate? With… WORK! (I kid you not). My actual celebration is on Monday… Victoria Day… starting off with an early morning HIKE in Hamilton (trail is 850km!) and a celebratory dinner with 70 of my closest friends. Then watch fireworks afterwards. I LOVE fireworks! It’s going to be a wonderful day spent with loved ones, given that I survive the hike and actually make it to dinner! :)

Another One of These Blue Boxes

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

Hmm… the title of this post makes it seem like I made a cake in the shape of a recycling box. Let me rephrase it — Another One of These TIFFANY Blue Boxes! Better? :)

First things first… HI! How are you? My blog and I have been in a love/hate relationship lately. I have so many things to write about, so many stories and adventures to share but whenever I open my account to write, I blank out. Is that normal? Probably not. I find that the BEST time for me to blog is at night when I have consumed at least two cups of delicious delicious caffeine. But now, all I have is a cup of hot water and a an opened bag of mini Oreos. That’ll have to do for now! ;)

I made this for a guy on my team and I must say, my second Tiffany’s cake was a lot easier than the first one. Besides having a love/hate relationship with my blog, I now have one with SQUARE cakes as well. Eesh! Those corners took about an hour to perfect. Why… WHY are corners 90degrees? Okay, that’s a dumb question. I love round cakes the most, still. So dear clients, please keep in mind to order more round cakes in the future. Many thanks in advance! :)

One thing I like about REPEAT designs is that I don’t have to think when putting it together. But one thing I don’t like about it is that it doesn’t allow my creativity to flow. I know the birthday girl pointed to a photo in my album and said, “I WANT THAT ONE!” so “that one” is the one she gets! I still love the femininity and delicacy of this cake and the colours.

My heart is in the details, still
