Hello World… it’s me!

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

I’m still alive. Just buried in a mountain of cupcakes. I know I skipped Topper Tuesday and Whimsy Wednesday this week but I have a good reason! Um… I have a reason! I’m extremely busy with this weekend’s orders and when I post them all up, you’ll see why. I had a dozen cupcakes go out tonight (which was the easy part). Tomorrow, a DIY cupcake kit is due for pick-up, 50 cupcake favours will be picked up at 11pm for Psalms Accessories’ Spring/Summer launch @ LG Fashion week (exciting!), 2 dozen assorted cupcakes will be out on Friday (I never do 6 kinds of cupcakes in one batch but this is a special occasion for someone I love dearly), a HUGE cake (by ‘huge’ I mean, DETAILS-HUGE!) will be delivered in the morning, possibly another cake that day (not confirmed yet) and 150 mini cupcakes for twin babies on Sunday.

PLUS, I’m planning for 3 upcoming cupcake workshops @ Paintlounge for April/May.

See? Told you I’m busy! Anywhos… please excuse my unbloggingness. I will be back soon!

By the way, my hands smell like frosting. Good/bad?

Stuff I LOVE: March Edition

Saturday, March 26th, 2011

Hi peeps! Happy Weekend :) I’ve been MIA for the past few days making cupcakes, securing deals, hiding from the cold… you know how it is! I’m still trying to find “balance” but it’s not easy when you’re a one-gal-show. I’m working on some projects at the moment (both big/small) which includes: re-designing my business card, Easter cupcake promotion, Psalms Accessories sponsorship at LG Fashion Week, planning for upcoming cupcake workshops @ Paintlounge, finding sponsors for my site, meeting couples for wedding cake consultations, designing cakes and oh! Did I mention baking and playing with fondant on a day-to-day basis? ;)

I like to relax from my crazy schedule by browsing the net for creative ideas and products. Each month I will post my favourite findings from my “bookmarks” folder. You’ll notice that they are all pink or cupcakes or pink cupcakes. Enjoy! :)

My Little Cupcake Pop
A no-bake cupcake pop mold. Whattttt? Watch the video.

I thought it was cute that the lady made her kids do the demonstration. That’s going to be my kids one day. I love the little girls’ narrations! “You can decorate it with an M&M… or anything you like” HAHA! So cute! The sad/funny thing is that I have the apron she’s wearing!

2. My Pink Cupcake Apron (Williams-Sonoma)

It was a total splurge/impulsive purchase but I don’t regret it one bit because I love it! The colour, the design… the colour! :) It goes up to mid-thigh and it’s perfect cause I’m short. It has pockets which is useful for hiding stuff or holding kitchen tools. I love it :)

3. Cake Boss: Stories and Recipes from Mia Famiglia
I love this book! I couldn’t put it down. I read it in two nights (and THAT was considered ‘pacing myself’). It’s such a heartfelt collection of stories about Buddy and his family. There’s tons of behind-the-scenes footnotes and RECIPES in the book as well. I appreciate the show so much more after I read this book. I highly recommend it. And look! It’s 34% off at Chapters with your irewards card ;)

I hope you enjoyed the first-ever “STUFF I LOVE” post! There will be more next time, I promise! ;)

Whimsy Wednsday: Cuddle Buddies

It doesn’t get much cuter than this!

Have a Whimsical Day! :)

Topper Tuesdays: Frienemies!

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

I didn’t have a clue what my “topper” was going to be this week and then it hit me last night! ANGRY BIRDS! :) I played it for the first time last week (I know I’m sooooo behind) and it was so much fun. I decided to pay tribute to these beloved enemies.

I love the pig! He’s so cute! :)

In other news… Sweet Escapes was featured on What’s Up Whimsy this week. I got to meet with Shannon (whom I met from crafTEAtime) and her adorable son Keaton on Friday at the kids’ section at Chapters. We sat on miniature brightly coloured chairs and felt like giants :) Read about it here.

Sweet Escapes is also an official sponsor of Psalms 91:1 Accessories’ Spring/Summer launch entitled “Your Love” on April 2nd at LG Fashion Week. For more information and to get tickets, click here.

It’s been a great week so far! Whimsy Wednesday is tomorrow…

see you then!

What a Weekend!

Monday, March 21st, 2011

It’s been a crazy weekend for me and I’m glad it’s finally Monday (who says that?!). I had a lot of consultations on Friday and an event-filled weekend which included frequent trips to Starbucks on very little sleep. I have to remind myself that I’m not in school anymore and that I cannot pull late nights and expect to be energized the next day.

Settlers of Catan

Somehow in the midst of the craziness, I managed to pull off a very last minute cake for a friend of my uncle’s birthday celebration. It was the quickest cake I’ve ever made from receiving the order to delivering it… and this coming from someone who has never heard of the game before!

Summer, Come Soon!

I love colours that remind me of summer!

Happy Weekend! :)

What is Paintlounge?

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

On Tuesday night, I went to Paintlounge as a paying customer for once and not a vendor. I was so excited to finally take part of the social painting experience. I went with a group of friends who all appreciated art so I knew that wonderful masterpieces were to come.

I’ve talked about Paintlounge on multiple occasions and I dont think I’ve ever explained the concept. Simply put, Paintlounge is a social painting cafe (*insert “huh”??*) The front section of the store is a cafe setting with tables and chairs where you can bring your laptop or a book and order food and drinks just like Starbucks. The back section is an art studio with canvases on easels waiting for your imagination to take over. They also have tons of different colours of acrylic paints, paintbrushes and shiny embellishments for your artwork.

Paintlounge has an extensive menu of beverages and yummy sandwiches!

Right off the bat, I knew that I wanted a pink background with cupcakes on it (surprise surprise?) We were lucky because we were the only group there and could be as loud as we wanted without disrupting others (teehee!). At one point, none of the six of us were talking because we were all in the “zone”. Destressing after a hectic day at work and enjoying each others’ company in the beauty of silence. We all ordered drinks and I had a mango fizz tea… it was delish!

The dirty paintwater cup is dangerously close to our drinks!

The most wonderful thing is seeing what your friends paint. You get to see a glimpse of their soul (I’m so profound! ;) ). Beverly and Samantha, the co-owners of Paintlounge and the masterminds behind this new concept, are two of the friendliest and down-to-earth people I’ve ever met. They gave us art books before we painted to get inspiration and explained the whole process to us. Overall, it was a really fun night and a great bonding experience! :)

Hmm… now where should I hang this? I wonder if anyone would buy this on Craigslist! ;)

WW: Kiss me! I’m IRISH!

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

Hello hello!

It’s 12:25am on Wednesday and I’m so excited cause it’s Whimsy Wednesday! I just came home from a painting session at Paintlounge and dinner at Gal’s Sushi (yup, that’s two sushi dinners in one week! Third one will be at Ginza on Thursday) and I’m pooped. Can’t wait to post the pictures from tonight! I was excited to go to Paintlounge as a customer and not a vendor for once ;)

My favourite one is the rainbow and pot of gold :)

I have some really exciting cake projects coming up… really exciting, really different! :)

Topper Tuesdays: Sushi

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

I had dinner at the BEST Japanese restaurant in Toronto. I’ve had tons of Japanese food before and nothing has ever impressed me… until last night. The sashimi was so fresh it melted in my mouth. Each dish was handcrafted with the very best ingredients and with such meticulous detail, you can really tell that the heart and soul of the chef went into each thing he touched. The best Japanese meal that I had (before last night) was in Hong Kong at Time Square’s WasabiSabi. It was a high-end restaurant and the food was amazing. It was extremely expensive as well! At Takara Bune, here in Toronto, you get the high-end quality without the price tag. Every dish was reasonably priced and it was SO WORTH IT! I will be dining there next week so stay tuned for a full review! :)

My first (Cupcake) Topper Tuesday post will pay tribute to my night at Takara Bune.

Happy Pi Day!

Monday, March 14th, 2011

I feel like such a nerd for saying that. I needed an excuse to make these super cute pie cupcake toppers! My favourite kind: sweet potato pie and key lime. Mmm mmmmm!! :)

Pi day really exists… just ask them peeps at Geek.com

Tomorrow is Topper Tuesdays… stay tuned!
Enjoy this GORGEOUS DAY OUTSIDE! ;)
