Welcome to my new website!

Hi Everyone!

I’m EXTREMELY excited for this to come to life and I’m even more excited that you, my readers, are able to use this as a resource to follow me on this journey of my life as a sugar artist.  This is a big milestone and I am excited that I am able to share it with you!  Stay tuned for promotions and giveaways! :)

Special thanks to my graphic designer Wai-lam, who has been working really hard and patiently replying to my constant buzz of e-mails.  I’m really grateful for all my previous ”failed attempts” at finding a designer for my website because it only led me to change my Facebook status to, “GRAPHIC DESIGNER WANTED.  I’M DESPERATE”.  Her fiance saw it, sent me her e-mail and 9 months later… TA-DA!  Check out her website at…  http://www.wai-lam.com/

The planning for The Great Cookie Project 2010 (also known as CHRISTMAS COOKIES) is well under way and the line-up will be released soon.  In the meantime, feel free to browse the gallery and leave me a note!

Talk to you soon!

DS Cake

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

Hi Everyone!
I hope you had a great weekend.  Mine was spent rolling fondant while covered in sugar!  I opened the door to a world of new cake challenges this weekend and tapped into the technological side of pastryland.  I received this order from a mother who wanted a DS cake for her son’s 10th birthday and I happily accepted.  I knew it was going to be a challenge but it was one that I was excited to take on.

You can’t see it in this picture but I finished the cake off by painting a layer of pearl luster dust on it to give it a polished look.  I also made the words pop by adding edible pixie dust to it–you can see a glimpse of it on his name.

I heard that everyone at the party enjoyed the cake and they actually had a “mad scientist” there doing experiments!

What a lucky little boy!

Sesame Street Cupcakes

What’s up with Sesame Street these days?
I haven’t heard about them in 20something years (since I stopped watching it) and now, they have made their grand return to my life–in the form of little cakes!  These cupcakes were for a baby shower this weekend and I loved making them!  My favourite characters to make were Oscar and the Cookie Monster.  I had fun designing the tags and putting the packaging together as well :)   It didn’t feel like work to me because I love my job!

Aiden’s Birthday Cake

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
I got to make my cousin’s first birthday cake this weekend and I enjoyed every minute of it.  He loves to watch “Play with Me Sesame” (a spin-off from the regular Sesame Street) so I thought that he would love a cake with all his favourite characters on it.  I would play the show for him and study his facial expressions to see which characters he liked the most.  The winners?  Ernie and Elmo!  Every time they came on the screen, he would smile, scream and clap his hands.  That was the easy part! :)

It was a banana and raspberry cake layered with cream cheese frosting and made with tons of love.  I wanted the characters in a row with their hands holding the “Happy Birthday” banner up but the sign took up much more space than I had originally thought.  It worked out for the better, though.  Looking at this cake made me feel like a little kid again–a part of me wanted to jump into the cake and join the festivities.  But, I held back.

Maybe next time :)
